Quick Start Guide

Step 1: Launch the Client Before you do anything else, you’ll need to launch the Evolve client. Once you log in to your Evolve account, you’ll see a large window open up with a variety of featured Twitch channels.

Step 2: Click the [Start Casting] Button In the upper right of this featured channels window, you’ll notice a red [Start Casting] button. Click it, and you’ll be prompted to link your Twitch account.

Step 3: Link Your Twitch Account A Twitch window will appear asking you to log in to your Twitch account and authorize Evolve to access various pieces of information on your behalf. Once you’ve successfully linked your account, you should see a small broadcasting toolbar appear on your screen. This toolbar will display your viewer count, give you easy access to various audio and video settings, and let you configure your Twitch channel’s title.

Step 4: Launch a Game Now that you’ve started your first broadcast, you’ll want to launch a game. You don’t need to do anything special–just launch your game how you normally launch it when you want to play. Evolve will automatically detect your game, begin capturing the video output from the game, and tag your Twitch channel with the game name.

Step 5: There Is No Step 5 That’s it! You can experiment with various broadcasting options to see what works best for you. Use the settings gear on the broadcasting toolbar to access these options and to bring up the channel viewer for easy access to Twitch chat and a broadcast preview.

Apparently, I’m a Bitcoin miner now, and it looks like I’m actually pretty good at it. Ars is currently in possession of one of the elusive but very real Butterfly Labs Bitcoin Miners. It’s a tiny little black box that fits in the palm of my hand, and it contains a specialized ASIC adept at chewing through SHA-256 cryptographic functions—exactly the kind of calculations necessary to bring more Bitcoins into the world. Turns out, it’s very good at what it does: it computes hashes at the rate of about 5.3 billion per second.

Was going to jazz it up for Christmas but got caught behind schedule.  Wanted to put holiday graphics and painted reindeer on the skin but the Elves were tasks with toy duty and Elfish activities in World of Warcraft.
